Kyrgyzstan steps up border security

Kyrgyzstan says it's stepped up its border security to deter possible attacks from guerrillas.

The head of the Kyrgyz Security Council, Bolot Dzhanuzakov, said it followed reports that up to seven-hundred guerrillas loyal to the rebel Uzbek leader, Dzhuma Namangani, had gathered in a border area of neighbouring Tajikistan.

Mr Namangani is believed to have led an invasion into Kyrgyzstan last year from his base in Tajikistan.

The group took several hostages.
