Baby dies after blaze

The blaze broke out at a house in Larne

A two-year-old boy who was injured in a fire at his home in County Antrim on Friday has died.

Jordan Gallagher had been in a critical condition at the Royal Belfast Hospital for sick children.

He sustained extensive burns after a fire broke out in the playroom of his home at Seahill Court in Larne.

Two firefighters were also injured as they rescued the child from the house.

Child lying at door

Fire officer Sam Arlow described the blaze which engulfed the end of terrace house as an "inferno".

He said his crew were able to see Jordan lying behind a glass door.

"Rather than wait to get oxygen, they dashed in and lifted him. His clothes were still burning," he said. "One of our personnel got his hands quite badly burned with lifting him.

"They then brought him out to the open air, but unfortunately he wasn't breathing."

Both firemen were treated at Antrim Area Hospital. One has severe burns to his hands, the other has serious cuts to his arm.

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
