Wigley back at helm of Plaid Cymru
Plaid Cymru President Dafydd Wigley is back in charge of the party after recovering from heart surgery. The Caernarfon AM temporarily stepped down from running Plaid after undergoing an operation before Christmas and Ieuan Wyn Jones was placed in charge.
Mr Wigley's doctors have given him the green light to return to full duties.
"I have to pay an enormous tribute and thanks to Ieuan Wyn Jones AM, who has filled the role of Acting Leader over this period," said Mr Wigley. "He has succeeded to lead the party and the Assembly with vision, judgement and resolution at a vital time for the Assembly and through this critical vote of confidence." Mr Wigley also thanked party members and Plaid's Assembly and House of Commons staff. "I look forward to a new period in Welsh politics which opens with the establishment with the new Rhodri Morgan government." Handing back the party reins, Ieuan Wyn Jones said: "It has been a great privilege to have acted as leader of the Plaid Cymru group over the past few weeks. "I am so pleased that Dafydd has returned to full health, and I am know that he will lead the group with vigour and determination." |
