Rhodri Morgan confirmed Welsh Labour Leader

The Labour Party in Wales has confirmed Rhodri Morgan as its new leader, after a special meeting in the capital Cardiff.

He takes over from Alun Michael, who resigned on Wednesday before losing a vote of confidence at the Assembly.

Mr Morgan's election clears the way for him to become First Secretary of the Welsh Assembly.

Opposition parties have already indicated they will not oppose Mr Morgan for that job, when the next full session of the assembly is held next Tuesday.
