New government in Uzbekistan The president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has named his new government following his re-election last month. Utkir Sultanov remains prime minister, and the main change is that the economics minister, Bakhtior Khamidov, has been appointed to the new post of first deputy prime minister.
