UK debut for new-look Oasis

Oasis performing on Friday's Top of The Pops

Rock band Oasis have made their first British appearance in their new line-up for the BBC's Top Of The Pops programme.

The new-look group performed their new single Go Let It Out on the show on Friday on BBC One.

The performance, recorded on Thursday, was the first time new members Gem Archer and Andy Bell performed with Noel and Liam Gallagher, plus drummer Alan White, in the UK.

Archer, formerly from little-known band Heavy Stereo, and Bell, best known from early-1990s band Ride, were recruited last year to replace guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs and bass player Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan.

Noel Gallagher: Glastonbury unlikely
But the appearance was not a live one - the new line-up's live UK debut comes at BBC Television Centre in London on Friday when they record a Later With Jools Holland special, for transmission on 1 April.

The band played live dates in a mini-US tour last December.

After the Top of the Pops recording, Noel Gallagher said: "We're just getting back into it at the moment. We've been rehearsing for months now and we did the dates in America, but playing live for the first time in Britain will be good.

"It's nothing that we've not been through before."

Meanwhile, in an interview to be broadcast on TV channel UK Play on Monday, he said the band would be unlikely to play at this year's Glastonbury festival.

He told the programme TOTP Plus the group would "need at least two and a half million good reasons" to perform at the event in June.

Top Of The Pops can be seen on BBC One again in the early hours of Sunday, at 0140 GMT.
