One of Britain's largest banks, NatWest, has finally conceded defeat after a bitter five-month takeover battle.

NatWest directors have recommended that shareholders accept a bid by the much smaller Royal Bank of Scotland to form the third largest bank in Britain.

The takeover is expected to lead to thousands of job losses in order to cut costs.
