Thai doctors guilty in kidney scandal

The medical council in Thailand has taken disciplinary action against five doctors for breaching ethical guidelines while obtaining kidneys for transplant.

Four of the doctors have been suspended while a fifth had his licence revoked.

The council only allows transplants between relatives but the doctors were found to have paid relatives of kidney donors and then offered them to unrelated patients, making a profit from the transactions.

Police are considering criminal charges against the doctors, who had been working at a hospital in Bangkok.
