De Glanville recalled for Paris clash
Phil De Glanville has been added to the England squad to face France in the next Six Nations match. The centre is unlikely to command a starting place after the performance of his Bath team mates Mike Catt and Mike Tindall in the opening match against Ireland. Clive Woodward will announce the full squad on Monday.
Meanwhile the French have named an unchanged side for the game which takes place a week on Saturday.
De Glanville, who suffered a fractured cheekbone during Bath's Premiership defeat by Wasps on December 5, was not considered for England's previous game against Ireland. The injury sidelined him until early January but by then Tindall and Irish international Kevin Maggs had moved up the pecking order at Bath. But two second-half substitute appearances and one start - in a friendly against Glasgow Caledonians - since he was hurt at Wasps, have proved sufficient for the experienced de Glanville to regain an England squad place. "I am delighted to see Phil back in action for his club, which provides me with further options at centre," Woodward said. "I will announce the 22 players travelling to Paris on Monday via a statement, and the starting 15 at the team hotel in Paris on Tuesday." That line-up seems certain to be unchanged as England seek their first Stade de France victory following a Grand Slam-wrecking defeat in 1998 and South Africa's World Cup quarter-final triumph almost four months ago. World Cup captain Martin Johnson is out after suffering concussion to add to a long-standing Achilles problem. France squad: Backs: Thomas Castaignede (Castres), Richard Dourthe (Dax), Christophe Dominici (Stade Francais), Emile Ntamack (Toulouse), Thomas Lombard (Stade Francais), Christophe Lamaison (Brive), Alain Penaud (Toulouse), Christophe Laussucq (Stade Francais), Fabien Galthie (Colomiers), DavidVenditti (Brive). Forwards: Christian Califano (Toulouse), Olivier Magne (Montferrand), Abdelatif Benazzi (Agen), Fabien Pelous (Toulouse, cap), Thomas Lievremont (Perpignan), Serge Betsen (Biarritz), Olivier Brouzet (Begles), Legi Matiu (Biarritz), Franck Tournaire (Toulouse), Pieter De Villiers (Stade Francais), Marc Dal Maso (Colomiers), Raphael Ibanez (Perpignan). |
