New chief for Wales Tourist Board
A successor has been announced to take over as chairman of the Wales Tourist Board. The appointment of Pembrokeshire businessman Philip Evans was made by the National Assembly's new Acting First Secretary and Economic Development Secretary Rhodri Morgan. Mr Morgan said he was pleased to appoint someone of Mr Evans' calibre, with "a distinguished record in tourism". He said Mr Evans would step in to serve what he called "this vital area of economic development in Wales." Mr Evans takes up the position on 1 April for a period of three years. Rhodri Morgan also thanked departing Chairman Tony Lewis for his contribution to tourism in Wales. Philip Evans, 51, is currently a member of the WTB Board as well as being Chair of Activity Wales and the Vox Group plc, a company with interests in tourism in Pembrokeshire. He will be paid £39,379 for a notional three-day week. It is understood he is not a Welsh-speaker. |
