Thirteen dead in violence in Aceh

At least thirteen people have died in further violence in the Indonesian province of Aceh.

Security forces say that six separatist rebels and a number of civilians were among those killed in several incidents on Wednesday.

The Indonesian military also says that eight of its troops were injured when a separatist fighter threw a grenade at them.

Hundreds of people have died in violence in Aceh in recent months.

The president of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid, has rejected calls for a referendum on independence to be held in the province.
