Slain Guatemalan bishop's aide arrested

The authorities in Guatemala investigating the killing of a Roman Catholic bishop two years ago have arrested a priest who worked as his assistant.

The priest, Mario Orantes, was arrested after returning to Guatemala from the United States, where he's been undergoing medical treatment.

Father Orantes was held for several months after the killing but was later released without charge.

Last month, three military officers and the bishop's former cook were detained in connection with the killing.

The bishop, Juan Gerardi, was battered to death after releasing a report accusing the military of atrocities during the thirty-six year civil war. On Tuesday, the prosecutor in charge of the case warned of legal action unless the priest returned.
