Immigrant strike after Spain's anti-foreigner riots North African immigrant workers in the southern Spanish town of El Ejido have begun a strike after three days of anti-immigrant rioting. They are demanding security guarantees after the riots, during which more than thirty people were injured. The workers also want the authorities to pay compensation for houses destroyed during the rioting. The violence erupted on Sunday after the funeral of a Spanish woman allegedly killed by a Moroccan immigrant. Latest reports from El Ejido say the situation is calm. El Ejido is the centre for agricultural production on Spain's southern coast. The industry relies heavily on cheap immigrant labour mainly from North Africa.
