Searches resume after arrests

Irish police stopped van near border Irish police stopped van near border

Searches are resuming in County Donegal in an area where Irish police arrested two men under anti-terrorist legislation.

The men who were arrested on Tuesday are understood to be from Londonderry.

Their van, which was travelling towards Londonderry, was stopped near Burnfoot close to the border with Northern Ireland.

They stopped about 100 yards short of a police checkpoint before turning off onto a side road.

After being pursued by the police, one of the men was arrested.

The other man ran off but was later detained. They were arrested under section 30 of the Offences Against the State act.

The two are being questioned on suspicion of being members of an unlawful organisation.

The van has been taken to Letterkenny for examination by technical experts.
