Injured pupils kept in overnight
Two Edinburgh pupils have been kept in Austrian hospitals for a second night following a ski accident. Teenagers Alison Arnott and Joanna Gardiner, from Trinity Academy, were injured on Monday after a snowboarder fell and collided with a line of skiers on a t-bar tow. A third pupil, Oliver Main, was released on Tuesday evening. A total of seven pupils were treated in hospital after the accident in the Dachstein mountains.
Alison Arnott, who was airlifted to Salzburg, said: "My head and neck are pretty sore and my arm is in agony but I haven't broken anything.
"We were quite near the top when I looked up and saw this man skidding towards us. "I grabbed hold of my friend Michelle but there wasn't much we could do. "I just kept thinking I've got to get to the other side or he'll be on top of me. Popular resort "He was about a metre above us and I was yelling at him to get out of the way but he landed on us and he skidded down onto the snow." The group was on a winter holiday break in the popular Planai-Hochwurzen skiing area. The party of 40 pupils travelled to Austria last Friday and are due back in Scotland on Saturday. Trinity Academy's assistant head teacher, Charles Morrish, said that because the accident was not "unduly serious" the group will return home at the weekend as planned.
