IRA splinter group behind bomb attack

An IRA splinter group, the Continuity IRA, has said it carried out a bomb attack in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

The attack on a hotel in the town of Irvinestown caused no injuries, but did extensive damage.

It was condemned by politicians from all sides - and came at a critical moment in the peace process, which is in crisis over the IRA's failure to begin disarming.

The chief constable of Northern Ireland, Ronnie Flanagan, said the aim of the Continuity IRA was to exacerbate the current difficulties.
