Indian police kill pro-Pakistan militant The police in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir say they have killed a prominent leader of a pro-Pakistan militant group , Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami, in Doda district in Jammu. The police say the man, Javed Iqbal, --known by his alias, Noor Hussain -- was killed in a shoot-out. They say it was the culmination of a two-week hunt for the man in a joint operation with the army. The police say he joined the militant group in 1992 and was the fourth Divisional Commander of Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami to be killed in the past eight months. Correspondents say security forces have intensified search operations throughout the district to catch more militants. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
