Indian police kill pro-Pakistan militant

The police in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir say they have killed a prominent leader of a pro-Pakistan militant group , Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami, in Doda district in Jammu.

The police say the man, Javed Iqbal, --known by his alias, Noor Hussain -- was killed in a shoot-out.

They say it was the culmination of a two-week hunt for the man in a joint operation with the army.

The police say he joined the militant group in 1992 and was the fourth Divisional Commander of Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami to be killed in the past eight months. Correspondents say security forces have intensified search operations throughout the district to catch more militants.
