Labour determined to scrap gay law

The British Local Government Minister, Hilary Armstrong, has said the government is determined to repeal a controversial law that bans schools from promoting homosexuality.

Ms Armstrong said repealing Section 28 of the Local Government Act was essential to stop discrimination against gay people and end homophobic bullying in schools.

The issue is being debated in the upper house of the British parliament, the House of Lords, on Monday, when it is expected that the Lords will vote to retain Section 28.

The Conservative peer, Baroness Young, says the law protects children and is supported by most parents.
