Hibs clip soaraway Rangers
Hibernian 2-2 Rangers Kenny Miller did the rest of the Premier League a favour with two goals that slowed Rangers' seemingly unstoppable march away with the 2000 championship title. Hibernian twice found themselves in front at Easter Road thanks to the young striker but twice the Glasgow giants levelled the scores. If only Hibs' fellow Premier clubs' could give Rangers such a fight. These two points were only the ninth and tenth dropped by Rangers this season. Despite that, their lead on nearest rival Celtic is now ten points. Hibs laid into Rangers right from the kick-off, unphased by their phenomenal record this season. Defenders Amoruso and Moore were always struggling to cope with Miller's pace and quick-thinking though neither side created many clear cut chances in the opening half. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst came closest with a shot deflected off the post by keeper Neil Colgan. But after the restart the breakthrough came when Rangers failed to clear a bouncing ball, Miller lashing it in for his ninth of the season. Dick Advocaat had brought on international midfielder Neil McCann at half-time - and the switch produced the equaliser seven minutes after Hibs' opener. John Hughes failed to cut out McCann's cross allowing Rod Wallace to nod down a simple free header. Rangers were rocked again in the 68th minute when Miller scored his second goal of the game. It came after a rare mistake by Arthur Numan, who was short with a pass back to keeper Stefan Klos. Miller showed great awareness to seize his chance and flick the ball wide of the German keeper as Numan tried unsuccessfully to make up ground. With Hibs looking like taking all three points, and avenging their 2-0 defeat at Rangers in November, McCann popped up in the 81st with a fierce shot that Colgan managed to get a hand to but could not keep out.
