Mexican police end student strike

Police in Mexico City have raided Latin America's largest university - with over 250,000 students - to end a student strike that's lasted nine months.

They pushed their way through barricades at dawn, rousing some students from their makeshift beds.

The authorities said hundreds of students were detained. There were no reports of violence. Their strike began last April over plans for a massive increase in tuition fees. They later called for changes to the way the university was run. When talks to end the dispute broke down on Saturday , the police were ordered in.
