Rangers aim to kill off title race

Hard taskmaster: Advocaat wil not relax yet

Rangers will move a massive 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League if they secure victory at Hibernian on Sunday.

Celtic's surprise defeat at Hearts has given the Ibrox outfit the chance to effectively kill off the title race with half the season yet to play.

The title-holders have only one defeat to their name and Sunday's clash with sixth-placed Hibs is not expected to bring another.

Hibs keeper Nick Colgan is is expected to make his 11th successive start on Sunday and knows he will have to be in top form to prevent Rangers strengthening their grip.

The 26-year-old, who came to Hibs after a nightmare 12-month spell at Bournemouth, has not looked back since being handed the jersey by Easter Road boss Alex McLeish last November in preference to Ole Gottskalksson.

"Rangers can be very dangerous from set-pieces as we all know. You've got Albertz and Lorenzo Amoruso hammering the ball in and van Bronckhorst delivering those corners, which are almost impossible to defend against.

"But I am kept on my toes in training by Franck Sauzee and Mixu Paatelainen, who can hit the ball as hard as anyone, and that should help me on Sunday.

"Rangers have so much strength in depth it is frightening. They signed the Turkish international Tugay yet he can't get into the side.

"We know we can't compete with them at that level but we owe it to our supporters, who have been brilliant this season, to put on a show."

Hibs were widely condemned for their negative tactics in November when they were defeated 2-0 at Ibrox and Advocaat is expecting another tough work-out for his team in Edinburgh.

"We know it will be a difficult match as Hibs are a good team. They are strong and physical so we will have to match them in that department," he said.
