The Everton manager Walter Smith
"They still play in a similar manner"

Blues pin hopes on US supersub

American signing Joe Max Moore is likely to earn only his second start for Everton as the Merseysiders aim to upset Wimbledon's impressive home record.

The Dons have lost at Selhurst Park only twice in the Premiership this season and will be chasing the three points they need to replace Everton in 11th place in the table in Sunday's only Premiership clash.

Moore arrived at Everton at the end of last year but has made only one senior start so far.

But after acquiring a supersub tag for two crucial last-ditch goals in recent weeks, Moore is tipped to be on from the start alongside Kevin Campbell, with teenager Francis Jeffers being rested.

In contrast the Dons will be looking to capitalise on Everton's dreadful away record as they seek the 12 extra points manager Egil Olsen reckons they need to be safe from relegation.

Revenge for August's 4-0 defeat would also be nice.

But they have problems up front with John Hartson ruled out until March, Carl Cort struggling with a hamstring injury and Marcus Gayle about to depart on international duty.

If Cort fails a late fitness test, Patrick Agyemang, 19, could start but Ben Thatcher is suspended following his two-match ban for elbowing an opponent.

The statistics show Everton have just one away victory in eight trips away from home since September, and even that autumn success was just across Stanley Park at Liverpool.

"If we could produce our home form on our travels, we would certainly be higher in the table," said boss Walter Smith.

Only Manchester United can match Everton's home form this season, neither having lost a league game on their own grounds.

The Dons currently lie 13th in the Premiership - eight points above the drop zone - while Everton are two points above them in 11th.

Everton will be without the suspended Nicky Barmby while John Collins should return from an ankle injury.

Don Hutchison is expected to shake off a bout of tonsilitis.
