Pakistani military leader backs Kashmiri militants

The military leader of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, says he will back Islamic separatists fighting in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Speaking at a refugee camp during a day of rallies in support of Kashmiri militants fighting Indian rule, General Musharraf asked India to resume negotiations over the disputed territory.

With tens of thousands of Pakistanis expected to attend the processions and rallies throughout the country today, the Chief Minister of Indian-administered Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, has warned in an interview with Reuters news agency that there could be what he called a limited war if Pakistan did not stop supporting the militants. In another development, Indian police say gunmen have killed three members of the minority Hindu community in Anandnagh district south of the capital, Srinagar.

One of the victims was an eight-year-old girl.
