Measles epidemic kills 100 in Afghanistan The United Nations says a measles epidemic has killed one-hundred people over the past month in northern Afghanistan. The outbreak was first reported in the Dara-e-Souf region before spreading to neighbouring areas. The region was one of the worst hit by fighting between the Taleban and opposition forces and the UN says the health system has collapsed and a vaccination programme has been suspended. Dara-e-Souf is also home to five thousand families displaced by the fighting. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
