Red-faced Norman makes early exit

David Park: Out on his own after two rounds

Greg Norman made an embarrassing exit from his own tournament when he failed to make the cut in Sydney.

The former world number one failed to qualify for the final two rounds at the Greg Norman Holden International competition for the second year in a row.

Welshman David Park made the running at the half-way stage, adding an eight-under-par 65 to his first round 68 to move to 13-under.

Park has a two-stroke lead over Ryder Cup player David Coltart, who carded a 68 and is one shot ahead of third-placed Australian Lucas Parsons.

Nineteen-year-old Australian amateur Adam Scott matched the previous best score at The Lakes with a sensational 10-under 63 to be five shots off the lead.

Host goes home

But it was Norman who attracted all the attention as the host could only manage a two-over 75 - taking him to five-over for the tournament.

Greg Norman: The Shark is beached
The Great White Shark said his "head wasn't in it" as he missed the cut by five strokes.

The Australian legend was not the only notable name to miss the cut, however.

New Zealand's Michael Campbell, who was aming for his third victory in a row, and Ireland's Padraig Harrington, also made early departures.

Park was delighted to be leading the way - even if his supercharged form had taken him by surprise.

"I didn't expect to be 13 under after two rounds - I never expect that," he said.

"But the greens were perfect and I even missed quite a few chances."
