Appeal for Taiwan earthquake victims

An official in Taiwan has appealed to people to spend the Chinese New Year Festival with survivors of September's earthquake.

Relief efforts have provided the victims with temporary housing, and the government's attention is now turning to the psychological effects of the earthquake.

The head of the central Nantou province said he was concerned people without families could gradually die of loneliness.

The BBC correspondent in Taiwan says local leaders are also aware of the political benefit of showing their support for the earthquake victims.

As dawn broke, another earthquake was felt in Taiwan, measuring a moderate five-point-two on the Richter scale.

There've been no reports so far of any casualties.
