Comessa summit ends in Chad

The summit of the Community of Sahel Saharan States -- COMESSA -- has ended in Chad with the adoption of a wide-ranging security charter, and the admission of three new members.

The eleven member countries agreed, among other things, not to interfere in each other's internal affairs, not to allow their territory to be used for attacks against member states, or support hostile elements in other Community countries.

The three new COMESSA member states are Senegal, Djibouti and Gambia.

Other members are : Chad, Libya, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Mali, Niger and Sudan. COMESSA was set up by Libya two years ago.
