Best known for being the man behind the notorious punk group, the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLaren joined the London mayoral race in December backed by the millionaire former boss of Creation records, Alan McGee. He proposes to have alcohol served in libraries to encourage reading, legalised brothels, and Amsterdam-style cannabis coffee shops. On transport he proposes a direct tax on cars, and the re-introduction of electric trams to cut pollution. Campaigning under the slogan "No politicians for mayor", he describes party politicians as the capital's "main pollutants" and he is keen to prevent them altering the character of the city he was born and grew up in. He emerged from art school in the 1960s to set up a fashion store specialising in rubber and leather fetish gear with fashion doyenne Vivienne Westwood. In 1975, influenced by the 'art gangster group', The Situationists, he discovered and managed the Sex Pistols. As a musician he has worked on four solo albums and numerous joint projects. He was also behind a number of bands from the 1980s including Adam Ant, Bow Wow Wow and Boy George.
