Sheffield Wednesday scraped into the fifth round of the FA Cup after winning a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Wolves.

Simon Donnelly buried the crucial spot-kick, after Paul Simpson and Michael Branch had missed for Wolves Molineux.

It was a close-run thing for Wednesday - who are adrift at the foot of the Premiership.

But a victory it was - and just the tonic needed by manager Danny Wilson.

Wolves may be in the First Division but their football pedigree is as good if not better than Wednesday's.

And they showed it by more than matching Wilson's men.

But it hardly made for attractive football as the action was dominated by hurried passes, headlong tackles and needless offsides.

It was a largely dull affair until the last 15 minutes when both sides shrugged off the torpor which had shrouded them for much of the game.

Wednesday brought on Alan Quinn for Danny Sonner while Wolves switched Robinson for Osborne.

The game sprung into life, with Wolves creating several clear-cut chances to earn a place in the fifth round.

Srinicek pulled off two fine saves from Ade Akinbiyi.

And when he was beaten with the clock showing 90 minutes, Ian Nolan somehow raced back to clear the ball from the line and keep the scores level.

If Wolves dominated the first 90 minutes, Sheffield Wednesday reversed the flow in extra-time.

Substitute Danny Sonner could have scored in the first-period but saw his header saved well by Michael Oakes.

The ball fell to another substitute, Richard Cresswell, but he sliced his seven-yard shot over the empty net.

The teams remained deadlocked and the tie moved to penalties.

During the half-time break the two giant video screens inside the ground had replayed a shoot-out between the teams back in 1995.

Then Wolves had emerged victorious, Wednesday's current reserve team coach Chris Waddle missing the decisive spot-kick before Don Goodman strode up to send his team through.

Wednesday earnt their revenge for that - and the dubious refereeing decision which forced the replay - just.

Keith Curle scored the first for Wolves to be followed by Andy Hinchliffe for Wednesday.

But the decisive moment came when Paul Simpson saw his saved brilliantly by Srnicek only for Wim Jonk to bury his to leave Wednesday 2-1 up.

Michael Branch then left Wolves with no way back as he slid his wide and Sibon netted.

Steve Sedgley kept Wolves in it and they were given further hope when Cresswell's spot-kick was saved.

Substitute Steve Corica put the pressure back on Wednesday by making no mistake with the last of the five, but Donnelly was equal to the challenge.

Wednesday now meet Second Division Gillingham in the next round.
