Shootout in Mogadishu

Tensions over cattle-rustling are being blamed for an exchange of gunfire in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, which left six people dead and ten injured.

Militiamen loyal to the faction leader, Mohamed Quanyareh Afrah, clashed with those backing a Suleman subclan of Habar Gidir near the Bar Ubah junction of south Mogadishu.

Witnesses said shooting began after militiamen based in the area tried to capture a vehicle mounted with a B-10 anti-tank gun which had strayed onto their turf.

Support for both militias poured into the area and a fierce firefight soon erupted.
