After losing three days of the fifth test in Pretoria because of rain, the two sides agreed to restrict themselves to one innings each.

South Africa declared at two-hundred-and-forty-eight for eight -- a target which England beat with five balls to spare and two wickets in hand.

But South Africa won the series two matches to one with two drawn.
