100 die in Angola attack

More than one-hundred people have been killed in Angola in an attack on a village in the central highland province of Bie.

A Catholic radio station blamed the attack on UNITA rebels.

It took place last week, but news only came to light after survivors who had fled on foot managed to reach nearby towns.

A local priest described the killings as immoral assassinations.

The BBC Angola correspondent says UNITA is still active in the central highland area, even though their capacity to wage war has decreased since government troops took control of their headquarters in that region.
