Cardiff Crown Court The court heard the pair verbally and physically attacked the girl

A mother and daughter have been ordered to pay compensation to to an Asian schoolgirl they attacked on a bus.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that Thelma Mizzi, 64, and her 39-year-old daughter Angela picked on the teenager because she had a seat on a crowded bus.

The victim, 14, told how the pair started verbally abusing her - before she was hit and her hair pulled.

She said: "The mother said: 'There's a Paki - there's going to be trouble'.

'Lashed out'

"The mother sat in front of me told her daughter - 'Sit there - the Paki will have to move'.

"Then the mother lashed out at me and her daughter was sitting on top of me, pulling my hair.

"I was hit to the face and my glasses fell to the floor."

Cardiff Crown Court heard the bus driver locked the doors when he saw the attack and called the police.

'Shaky'

The schoolgirl added: "My head hurt and I felt really shaky. I was not expecting to be beaten up on the bus."

Judge William Gaskell singled out pensioner Thelma Mizzi as the main troublemaker.

Thelma Mizzi, of Penarth near Cardiff was found guilty of racially aggravated common assault. She received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a 12-month suspended sentence supervision order.

She was also ordered to pay her victim £100 compensation.

Angela Mizzi, also of Penarth, was found guilty of common assault. She was put on probation for 12 months and was ordered to pay £50 compensation to the schoolgirl.
