Nigeria football chief sacked

Reports from Lagos say the chairman of the Nigerian Football Association, Tony Kodjo Williams, has been sacked.

Mr William's removal comes during final preparations for the African Cup of Nations competition which starts on Saturday .

Nigeria is co-hosting the competition with Ghana. The Reuters news agency says Mr Williams was impeached following a no-confidence motion by NFA board members.

The agency says local media had reported frequent disagreements between Mr Williams and the sports ministry over the administration of football in Nigeria.

It is not clear if Mr Williams removal will have any impact on the Cup of Nations competition.
