Medellin in Colombia without power Officials in Colombia say three-million people living in the province of Antioquia and large parts of its capital, Medellin, are without power because left-wing rebels have blown up electricity pylons. An army general, Eduardo Herrera, said that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, were responsible for the attacks. Water supplies in the area have also been affected because the plants need electricity to work. The Energy and Mines minister, Carlos Caballero Argaez, said that the attacks could lead to electricity rationing. He also said that the rebels should understand that by destroying electricity pylons, they hurt the entire population. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
