Uttar Pradesh electricity strike Police in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have arrested more than two thousand electricity workers who've been taking part in a strike against planned government reforms of the industry. The stoppage which began on Saturday has severely disputed power supplies across the state, especially in some rural areas. Nearly a-hundred thousand electricity employees in Uttar Pradesh have taken part in the strike,which is in protest at government proposals that include privatising electricity distribution From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
