Pakistan releases Afghan transit goods

The Taleban Deputy Commerce Minister, Fazal Mohammed Faizan, says the military leader of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, has ordered the release of all Afghan transit goods impounded at the port of Karachi.

It follows concern from Pakistan that Afghan transit goods are being smuggled back across its borders and undercutting legally imported goods. As a landlocked country, Afghanistan is allowed to import goods duty free via its neighbours But Pakistan has kept its ban on the export of basic goods, which has led to huge price hikes in Afghanistan.
