Bangladesh and Burma discuss Rohingya problem Officials from Bangladesh and Burma have been discussing the plight of thousands of Burmese muslim refugees who've been living in camps in southern Bangladesh for almost a decade. About a quarter of a million refugees, known as Rohingyas, fled to Bangladesh to escape alleged persecution by the military authorities in Burma. Most have returned, and Burma has agreed to take back about about a third of the remaining Rohingyas. However most of the refugees are still reluctant to leave Bangladesh despite assurances from the United Nations about their safety. Bangladesh wants all of the refugees to go home. The UN's refugee agency has warned that it may not be able to continue funding the camps for much longer unless the two countries can agree on finding a permanent home for the refugees.
