England's one-day campaign

England lost to South Africa in the last World Cup

The Test series complete, England turn their attention to the one-day game, with matches against South Africa and Zimbabwe.

News Online profiles the three squads and the venues, analyses England's awful record in overseas limited overs fixtures and looks back at recent humiliations in southern Africa.

ENGLAND SQUAD

England's party for the one-day games shows a number of changes to the squad beaten by South Africa in the Test series.

Captain Nasser Hussain faces a tough task. As well as looking for his side to develop ahead of the next World Cup, he also needs to prove his worth as a player in the shorter form of the game.

SOUTH AFRICA SQUAD

Like England, South Africa are in a state of flux in the one-day discipline.

Star players like Darryl Cullinan and Allan Donald have either retired or are about to, and Hansie Cronje's men have still not answered their critics following the World Cup debacle.

ZIMBABWE SQUAD

Andy Flower is in charge of the Zimbabwe team for the second time.

And his players, often overlooked by fans and pundits, will be relishing the chance to tread on some illustrious toes.

ENGLAND RECORD

England's results in overseas limited overs matches in the past decade make pretty grim reading.

Of the 96 one-day internationals they have played, England have been successful in just 37.

SOUTH AFRICA 1996

Of all the many one-day disappointments of recent touring England teams, perhaps the most dramatic took place on South African soil four years ago.

Mike Atherton's beleaguered troops were swamped 6-1 in the series.

ZIMBABWE 1997

If the South African defeat was bad enough, the way England capitulated to Zimbabwe was arguably the lowest point in their one-day history.

When a chicken farmer took a hat-trick in the final match, the headline-writers could not believe their luck.

ONE-DAY VENUES

Five venues in South Africa and Zimbabwe are being used for England's campaign of one-day matches, from established Test stadiums to less well known provincial grounds.
