Danny Wilson Danny Wilson faces a struggle against relegation

Trade unionists have told Labour MPs trying to get Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Wilson sacked that they are abusing their position.

The plight of Wednesday and their beleaguered is the latest sporting saga to be hijacked by politicians.

Last week a group of four Sheffield MPs - Education and Employment Secretary Blunkett, Joe Ashton, Bill Michie and Clive Betts - attempted to have Wilson removed.

But white collar union MSF has now stepped into the row in defence of Wilson.

"MSF firmly believes it is not the place of MPs to head a campaign to dismiss an employee, causing considerable distress to him and his family," said Mike Mulhern, national secretary of the union which works alongside the League Managers Association to represent football league managers in England

"Our managers work in a high stress industry, and go through a weekly examination of their work, in terms of delivering results.

"If MPs had to stand up to that level of scrutiny, how well would they come out of it?

"We believe it's a disgrace for MPs - especially the employment secretary - to be involved in trying to dismiss Danny Wilson.

"MSF and the LMA believe this criticism is an outrageous abuse of the MPs public position."

Wednesday are languishing at the foot of the Premiership, having claimed just 10 points from the first 20 games - a record league low.
