Ex-CIA director in fatal crash

A former head of the American Central Intelligence Agency, Stansfield Turner, has been named as one of the tourists injured when a plane crashed in Costa Rica on Saturday.

Mr Turner's wife, Karen, was among four passengers who died when the aircraft came down shortly after take-off from an airport near the Costa Rican capital, San Jose.

Mr Turner, who served as CIA director from 1977-81 under President Jimmy Carter, is in his mid-seventies.

The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
