Opposition TV channel sabotaged in Serbia

The manager of a Serbian television station run by the opposition has accused the government of President Slobodan Milosevic of stealing vital transmission equipment to put its broadcasts off the air.

The director of the Studio B channel, Dragan Kojadinovic, said the theft of the transmitter on Mount Kosmaj near Belgrade had halved the number of viewers who could receive its programmes.

He described the incident as state terrorism.

Mr Kojadinovic said jamming of Studio B's signal had been going on for six months, but the government claimed the interference was probably coming from abroad, perhaps from NATO planes.
