UNHCR head to visit Burundi refugees The UN's High Commissioner for Refugees, Sadako Ogata, is in Tanzania at the start of a ten-day tour of the Great Lakes and southern Africa. She'll visit Burundian refugee camps in western Tanzania tomorrow. A BBC correspondent in that region says large numbers of Burundians continue to flee the civil war to Tanzania -- more than ten-thousand people this month alone, bringing to three-hundred thousand the total number of Burundian refugees in Tanzania. Our correspondent says the refugees accuse both government troops and rebels of burning villages in Burundi. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
