Maiden win for Wall
England's Anthony Wall carded a superb four-under-par 68 to claim his first European Tour win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. His 12-under total of 204 left him two shots clear of Wales' Phil Price and Scotland's Gary Orr, with South African Retief Goosen a shot further back on nine under. An emotional Wall, in only his second full year as a professional, embraced his father and coach Tom on the 18th green after surviving a nervous finish to claim the £78,000 first prize.
Standing on the 18th tee, Wall had a two-shot lead over Price, who was already in the clubhouse after carding a final round 67, with Orr a shot further behind.
But his drive hit a tree, the ball travelling only 140 yards, and with Orr then hitting a superb second to 12 feet to set up a possible eagle, the nerves were really jangling. Wall's third shot came up just short of the green but after a good chip to three feet, Orr's eagle putt slipped past the hole to give Wall a welcome cushion. Earlier his chances of a maiden win appeared to be slipping away when he bogeyed the ninth for an outward half of 37 to fall three behind the leader Trevor Dodds of Namibia. But the former England international compiled a superb back nine with five birdies in eight holes with a crucial two-shot swing on the 17th where Wall birdied and Dodds dropped a shot.
