The Conservative opposition in Britain has criticised the incoming director-general of the BBC, Greg Dyke, after the disclosure that he has a large shareholding in a commercial broadcaster, Granada.

The BBC says it was aware of the matter when Mr Dyke was appointed, and he's been told he must sell the shares by April.

But the Conservative opposition spokesman on the media, Peter Ainsworth, said it was an outrage that Mr Dyke held shares in the BBC's main competitor, and he should be forced to sell them at once.
