Fifteen rescued from burning trawler

Fifteen crewmen from a Spanish-registered trawler have been rescued after it caught fire off the south-west tip of England.

They were picked up from a liferaft by a passing ship; three are being treated in hospital in Cornwall for burns and smoke inhalation.

Coastguards have praised the Scottish captain of the trawler Eugene Rutter for his handling of the incident.

Meanwhile, the people of Whithorn, in south-west Scotland, have been holding a church service in memory of the seven fishermen who went down with their ship in the Irish Sea last week.

All seven came from the village.
