Goodway quits as GB coach
Great Britain rugby league coach Andy Goodway has resigned. Goodway, who was appointed in 1997, guided the team through a home series against Australia, a 1998 series against New Zealand and the Lions tour to the southern-hemisphere last year.
Goodway said: "When I accepted the Great Britain and Ireland position in 1997 I was an inexperienced coach in both club and international terms.
"I'd like to thank Neil Tunnicliffe and the RFL for giving me the opportunity and for their support. "It has been a privilege to play a part in the long-term process in rebuilding the Great Britain and Ireland structure through the sport's World Class Programme, and I hope that that process will now be allowed to continue to a successful conclusion." Rugby Football League chief executive Neil Tunnicliffe said: "I'd like to thank Andy sincerely for all his hard work and his input. "I have no doubt that given the dedication and ability which he brought to the post in equal measure he will be returning to coaching and management in the not too distant future." No decision is expected on a new appointment for around 12 months.
