Wasim returns for Pakistan

Akram Wasim Akram has recovered from a groin twinge

Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has declared himself fit ahead of his side's tri-series clash against Australia.

Wasim suffered a groin twinge during the closing stages of last week's clash against India, but said he was now ready to play.

"I'm okay now. I'm looking forward to playing," he said.

Pakistan made a grand start by winning their first two games against Australia and India in Brisbane last week, before taking a six-day break.

Australia, meanwhile, came back strongly to defeat India in the next two matches.

Wasim said the 45-run win over Australia at Brisbane - avenging the embarrassing eight-wicket defeat in the World Cup final in June - had added to his team's confidence.

"We needed that victory to tell ourselves that we can win against them," Wasim said.

"Now there is a little more pressure on the Aussies, knowing that Pakistan can beat them."

Pakistan are likely to bring in reliable opener Wajahatullah Wasti to replace the hard-hitting Shahid Afridi, who failed to score against India.

Captain Steve Waugh said Australia was likely to retain the same side that defeated India by five wickets in Sydney on Friday.

Likely teams:

Australia:
Steve Waugh (captain), Mark Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Michael Bevan, Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds, Shane Lee, Brett Lee, Damien Fleming, Glenn McGrath.

Pakistan:
Wasim Akram (captain), Saeed Anwar, Wajahatullah Wasti, Ijaz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul Haq, Yousuf Youhanna, Abdur Razzaq, Moin Khan, Saqlain Mushtaq, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar.
