Brazilian rivals vie to be greatest The Brazilian team Corinthians of Sao Paulo have won the first football World Club championship by beating another Brazilian team, Vasco da Gama, on penalties in Rio de Janeiro. After a scoreless match and extra time, Corinthians won by 4 goals to 3 in the penalty shoot-out. The championship brought together club sides from Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
