Israel has ordered fifty F-16 fighter planes from the American Lockheed Martin company at a cost of more than one-point-three billion dollars.

The sale follows Washington's assurance of security guarantees while Israel engages in the Middle East peace process.

Israel and Syria are to meet for a third round of peace talks in the United States later this month.
